If you’re visiting Seattle, a great alternative to the hustle and bustle of the city traffic is to stay in Seattle Southside! Just 20 minutes from downtown Seattle, and 20 minutes north of Tacoma, Seattle has a lively and happening backyard! Seattle Southside has quickly become a vibrant hub that’s perfectly located between natural beauty and tons of urban attraction. The area is considered “Seattle’s Backyard,” and is made up of a variety of cities, which include Tukwila, SeaTac and Des Moines. This area is a great alternative to downtown Seattle for several reasons, and here are a few.

You don’t have to go far to experience the convenience of Seattle’s Backyard! Proximity to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport makes for easy breezy travel logistics. Plus, there’s a Link Light Rail that runs through the area, making getting to downtown Seattle a breeze!

Pro Tip: if you’re from Seattle or have visited recently, you may have experienced an influx of traffic, and had some trouble finding parking. Using the Link Light Rail is an affordable, hassle free alternative to driving, with early and late run times.

Fun tip: Southside Express is a shuttle bus available for visitors to ride to and from their SeaTac hotel and shopping FREE of charge! It’s a great alternative to renting a vehicle, and offers an added convenience to enjoy all that Seattle Southside has to offer.

Cool Lodging

Given Seattle Southside is a thriving area, expect to see some unique, cool lodging options! Two local favorites include Hotel Interurban and Cedarbrook Lodge. Hotel Interurban is in Tukwila, in the Southcenter district. The 4-star hotel is affordable, trendy and super edgy! There’s even a robot named Hazel who brings room service to guests. The Cedarbrook Lodge is an urban oasis near the airport. It’s known for its award-winning dining, relaxing spa and cool woodsy feel. At Cedarbrook Lodge, you’ll forget that you are so close to the airport. Both properties offer a 24-hour shuttle with easy access to light rail station connecting to downtown Seattle.

Bonus: With Seattle Southside’s “Do More Save More Passport” guests staying at Hotel Interurban will receive a 20% discount and free parking, and Cedarbrook is offering a free Nitro Cold Brew to get you in the lodge mood!

Shopping Galore

If you’re looking for new threads or just a place to burn some money, the Westfield Southcenter Shopping Center has it all! As the area’s biggest mall, you’ll find every store you desire here. The two-level indoor shopping mall has more than 200 stores and places to eat, including a multiplex with IMAX. You’ll want to spend an entire day here if you’re a shopaholic. One of my favorite new stores is Riley Rose, located on the first floor of the mall. Not only does the store have a ton of great beauty products, but really fun travel related goodies. Stay tuned for a list of my holiday travel must have’s, featuring this super fun store- Riley Rose!

Adventure Friendly

If you love thrills, you’ll want to check out iFLY Seattle. It’s where the dream of flight becomes a reality. You’ll be able to float on air at this indoor body flight center. It’s a fun and exhilarating experience that’ll get your heart pumping with excitement! I recommend flying all the way to the top for the full sense of freedom. Book your iFLY experience with Seattle Southside to receive a hefty discount!

Sweet Treats

Delight your sweet tooth by taking a visit to Seattle Chocolates! Seattle Chocolates is the essence of indulging. During a factory tour, guests get a behind-the-scenes look at how chocolate confections are made, while tasting, exploring and discovering  the most amazing chocolate treats. One of my favorite things about Seattle Chocolates is they often sell bags of chocolates that couldn’t quite make it through production for only $10.00! This is a great deal considering the quality of the chocolate!

Delicious Eats

If food is your thing, you must stop at Din Tai Fung! Din Tai Fung has the most delicious hand made, fresh dumplings you’ve ever tasted! I couldn’t help but catch this amazing art in action during my latest visit. Another favorite, if you’re looking for a peaceful retreat is Copperleaf Restaurant at CedarBrooke Lodge. Surrounded by a stone fireplace, blown glass and natural views, Cooperleaf emulates the feel of Pacific Northwest! The cuisine is based around a farm-to-table concept, serving seasonal dishes, made with fresh ingredients that are locally sourced from the Northwest. Cooperleaf Restaurant even uses ingredients from their very own private garden!

Hand Crafted Drinks

If you’re into cocktails, you must stop at a Seattle staple, 13 Coins, and try one of their handcrafted cocktails. The venue features live music every Friday and Saturday night and they even have a special 24-hour menu for all of you night owls! If you’d like something more low-key try Odin Brewery’s Norwegian vibe! Many brews are featured here along with typical bar food. This is a local favorite among residents and is closely located near shopping and hotel venues.
