There’s something romantic about South. Maybe it’s the region’s charm, hospitality or simply the magic of how a Southern sunset looks, but whatever the case is, there’s no denying that the South conjures up warm and tingly feelings in lovers. Everywhere you go, there seems to be romantic vibes all over in the South – which is why you should visit these favorite romantic Southern getaways with your sweetheart soon!
1. Savannah, GA
If you’ve been to the South, then you probably already know how beautiful Georgia is. It doesn’t get more romantic than when in Savannah, GA with its historical buildings, sweet warm temperatures and picturesque live oak trees. The city just drips with romance everywhere you go, which is why it’s the perfect place for a quick Southern Romantic getaway. Places you need to check out include: the city’s downtown historic district, the Mansion on Forsyth Park, the Gastonian and Tybee Island!
Tybee Island is an especially unique and beautiful beach in the South. Imagine dolphins greeting you while swimming in the water, kayaking to historic lighthouses, and dining on low country boil at the ever so popular Crab Shack!
2. Charleston, SC
Just like Savannah, Charleston, South Carolina is loaded with romantic spots perfect for lovers. Charleston has a variety of options for couples looking to experience love while surrounded with historical ambience. You’ll want to stroll the cobblestone streets and gawk at the historic architecture while holding hands and gushing about your love for each other. Places to go with your sweetie include the Battery, White Point Gardens and Waterfront Park. You also need to check out Charleston’s most visited plantation, Magnolia Plantation and Gardens or Boone Hall Plantation, where the Notebook was filmed!
3. Asheville, NC
There aren’t many places in the United States where you can enjoy sights as beautiful as The Biltmore in Asheville, North Carolina. Built by tycoon George Vanderbilt, the mansion is home to beautiful gardens, a robust winery, horseback riding, picnics in the park, and impeccable 5-star lodging. With North Carolina’s beautiful mountain landscape as a backdrop, Asheville offers many romantic spots, especially when it comes to lodging. My second favorite romantic hotel spot is at Marriott’s Grand Bohemian Hotel Asheville, which is home to the Red Stag – a plush steakhouse in the historic Biltmore Village district. Imagine dining in oversized plush red chairs and reading from illuminated menus! After dinner, reminisce on the fun stories learned while touring the Biltmore Estate home.
4. Cumberland Island, GA
If you head to Cumberland Island for your romantic getaway, you have to stay at the http://familygonesailing.com/2017/07/20/video-of-the-week-bouncy-anchorage-in-fakarava/ Greyfield Inn, which is one of the most romantic inns in the States! This island is considered to be “the island that kept the biggest secret”. Cumberland Island is where Mr. John F. Kennedy Jr quietly married Carolyn Bessette. The Greyfield Inn is also one of the very few places in the U.S. that offers a true all-inclusive experience. Enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks – all included in your room rate. You’ll also definitely want to see the wild horses at the Cumberland Island National Seashore, and then watch the sunset as you partake in sweet kisses from your sweetheart.
5. Hilton Head Island, SC
With its sandy beaches, amazing sunsets and various dinner and drink spots, Hilton Head Island is a great place for a quick romantic weekend in the South. With so many couple-friendly activities, you’ll never want the weekend to end! You can stand-up paddle board during the day and then dance in the moonlight in a quiet salt marsh to end your day! One of my favorite things to do in Hilton Head is to go the lighthouse at Shelter Cove, and walk around the marina admiring the boats. Here’s a tip: eat your ice cream after climbing to the top of the lighthouse!
6. St. Augustine, FL
It doesn’t get any more romantic than St. Augustine in late spring when the jasmine is blooming! From its brick-paved streets that are walked on by horses with carriages to the rings of charming bell towers and the ocean breezes, St. Augustine is the epitome of romance. A few romantic things to do for the weekend include a historic district stroll hand-in-hand, dining at one of the many romantic restaurants in town, enjoying live music and slow dancing at one of the city’s bars and venues, and just taking a night stroll on the beach!
