Thinking of taking a trip with your closest girlfriends? I know spots like NYC, Florida, California or Mexico might spring into your mind first. As you’re contemplating where to go with your gal gang, you also might want to consider Minneapolis, Minnesota. Before you go rolling your eyes thinking it’s a boring city, hear us out! Minneapolis is great for a weekend escape because of its vibrant culture filled with style and spirit. Here’s a complete guide on what to do for a fun weekend in Minneapolis with a few of your besties:

Where To Stay: Hewing Hotel in North Loop

The Hewing Hotel isn’t some huge hotel chain, but rather a unique, independent 124-room hotel that’s set in a century-old brick and timber warehouse. Located in the city’s historic North Loop neighborhood, the Hewing Hotel has charm and charisma, providing travelers with an authentic Minneapolis experience. The North Loop hotel is centrally located next to cool spots like Target Field, and the Guthrie Theater, making it a popular choice amongst tourists and locals. The property boasts an amazing rooftop with fantastic views of the city. One unique aspect of the hotel is its exclusive Social Club. With a membership, locals can mingle with like minded adventurists in a semi-private, trendy setting. Hotel guests can gain rooftop accesses for a nominal fee.

In case that’s not enough enticement, The Hewing is rated the #1 hotel in Minneapolis on Trip Advisor. The unrivaled service makes for the best stay ever! I highly recommend this property for your next stay in Minneapolis. In fact, I’m so excited about this hotel brand that I’ll be writing a separate post this week!

Enjoying the amazing view from the rooftop at the Hewing Hotel.

Where To Eat and Drink

There are many of delicious spots in the city, but if you’re going to want an amazing “breakfast to beer” experience close to the North Loop, head to The Freehouse. The lively patio is even centered with a huge beer silo! The service (inside or outside) is also upbeat and efficient. We ordered the gnocchi filled with mushrooms, pesto and bacon and a poached egg on top! This was the most tantalizing dish I have put in my mouth in a very long time. Another great patio spot in the North Loop (and close to Hewing Hotel) is the Monte Carlo. We ordered champagne and the salmon salad!

In addition to the North Loop, another personal favorite of mine is The Lexington. The swanky vibes at this American steakhouse restaurant are super classy and takes you back to the rat pack time! It’s a hip spot for couples, singles and groups. The venue has new ownership, and is back and better than ever. The new and improved vibe features plush, yet modern décor. The food and drinks are fantastic, which is why it’s one of the hottest spots in the city. My favorite appetizer is the shrimp cooked in cast iron!

You’ll love the ambiance at Psycho Suzi’s Motor Lounge and the concoctions they mix up. This place pops on a sunny day on the patio. Order one of their delicious tiki-inspired drinks, and delicious pizza and the mood will be set for a fun girl’s night out! There’s a ton of speakeasy bars across the states and what makes them so cool is how they’re unmarked bars that are supposed to be “secret.” The Marvel bar is one of these cocktail bars, featuring avant-garde cocktails and eclectic décor. Behind the famed purple door is one of the best bars in the Midwest!

Other notable places to check out are Eat Street on Nicollet, which is literally a neighborhood that features all sorts of restaurants! Eat Street has everything your taste buds will ever want and crave! Juicy Lucy at Matt’s Bar is the original home of “Juicy Lucy” – a cheese stuffed hamburger that’s to die for!

Where To Shop Local

While in Minneapolis, you can’t miss a shopping trip to the Mall of America, which is the biggest mall in the states! You’re inner fashionista will literally go crazy at all the offerings this mall provides (plus there’s no sales tax). But if you’re looking for small shops with unique style and flavor, the Mill City Museum store features loads of fun souvenirs to take home to your friends. The North Loop is also also home to some fun boutique stores, such as The Statement Boutique that has a variety of local and trendy designers for shoppers to choose from. The owner Molly has a keen eye for fashion, and is extremely helpful when trying to find the right piece for any occasion.

We were also lucky enough meet the founders and creators of Willow Tree Jewelry. Brenda and Christina Johnson have teamed up to create the best unique handcrafted jewelry local to Minneapolis. This mother-daughter team is a friendly pair, and extremely talented at their craft. Brenda and Christina are some of the friendlies gals that we met during our day of shopping. I can’t wait to wear my custom ordered necklace!

Where To Play

There are many fun things to do in Minneapolis with your gals and here are a few: Take a cooking class at Crocus Hill to take home some delicious recipes, or see beautiful art at MIA. Don’t forget to get a photo at the cherry spoon! Also, be sure to check out who’s in town while taking in a concert at the iconic First Ave.

Another one of our favorite things to do is to grab a coffee and walk to the Stone Arch Bridge. The area of St. Anthony Main is home to a beautiful park, and rushing falls.

I hope that you consider the city of Minneapolis for your next girls trip!
