The Atlantis Paradise Island Resort in the Bahamas is the area’s top resort and one of the most renowned places to stay in paradise. With so much to do, it’s a destination within itself! There are waterslides galore, a casino, pools and so much more! Atlantis is the ultimate vacation spot for honeymooners and families, and a pit stop for many cruise ships. Cruise ship guests only get limited time on Paradise Island. To maximize land time, cruisers can easily experience the best of Atlantis by planning a day visit to the resort. Let’s discuss the options:
Activities on Atlantis
Visiting the many Atlantis Paradise Island attractions is possible without staying overnight. Access to the water park area and popular Aquaventure pool is normally reserved for resort guests, but day-trippers can visit these attractions for a fee. Activities range from the Aquaventure pools and water slides to swimming with dolphins at Atlantis’ Dolphin Cay to attending a Discover Atlantis Tour. During the Discover Atlantis tour, expert “Navigator” guides present Atlantis through the eyes of ancient city of history. The tour provides a pretty believable archaeological exploration of the lost continent. Or, you can just do what I did.. and head to the pool!
Things to Consider
Before I review day pass options, there’s a few important things to consider. Will you be booking through the Atlantis tour desk, a partner company, or cruise line? Package prices and details vary according to season. Remember, Atlantis Paradise Island is the attraction once in port. Crowds will be prevalent, so carefully consider your timeframe. For example, how long are you willing to wait to get to the resort? How long will you stay at the resort? Do you feel comfortable getting a taxi on your own? Often, transportation isn’t included with a pass to Atlantis unless booked through the cruise line. Per usual, taxis are readily available outside once you disembark the ship. I booked transportation on my own and arrived to the resort much sooner than fellow cruise passengers, and left the resort at my leisure.
Aquaventure Day Pass
If you’d like to head to the beach and experience the water park, passengers can buy the Atlantis Aquaventure Package! This can be booked through the resort or with a company like Bahamas Day Pass. The company is known in the Bahamas for providing an all-day access pass to the resort’s exclusive sandy beaches and water park. If you really want to go “all out” and enjoy beaches, water slides, and swim with dolphins… the new Combo Pass offers all-day access to everything! Bahamas Day Pass sells passes online, and the website is user friendly. Most cruise lines will have similar shore excursion options. Also, the Atlantis tour desk offers the Atlantis Aquaventure Package. Remember, it’s worth it to price compare. Pay attention to high and low seasons where prices fluctuate.
Comfort Suites Stay and Play
Another great option to experience what Atlantis has to offer is to book a day room at the Comfort Suites Paradise Island since you’ll receive a one-day all-access pass to the resort as part of your booking. We booked ahead of time (using a military discount), paid one room rate and everyone received bracelets. The money saved by booking a room at the Comfort Suites was quite considerable. I liked having the option of a room nearby for a break from the water park. The Comfort Suites is conveniently across the street from Atlantis, has beautiful rooms, and a nice pool.
If you’re not arriving via cruise ship, but instead staying on Paradise Island, booking The Comfort Suites is an amazing vacation value. The resort includes daily breakfast in the room rate, along with inclusive access to the resort. Kids stay, play and eat for free! So don’t think you actually have to stay at the Atlantis Resort to really enjoy its many amenities – you just need to know about these day-trip tips!
Book with Resort for a Day
Resort for a Day is a company that I also highly recommend. The destination options include Atlantis, but also many other resorts in the Caribbean, Bermuda, Hawaii, Florida and Mexico. Resort for a Day guarantees admission and competitive prices. The company specifically designs packages with the cruiser in mind, and does not sell passes to non-cruisers.
Good Luck on your next trip to Nassau! I hope you get to visit the Atlantis Paradise Island on your next cruise stop to the Bahamas.
