Why Amex Platinum is the Best Travel Card

Amex. This. Is. The. Card. I talk a lot about this card to others, because it’s pretty much the best card I’ve had for travel perks- EVER. I don’t get into credit cards much unless they offer me something, and usually that is not the norm. But this card, is the holy grail of cards. If you follow popular bloggers, like The Points Guy, you will see that in the world of business and leisure travel, this card gives you the best perks, and should be carried in your wallet. Plus, the hard-shelled face isn’t too shabby holding either! Here are my top reasons why I recommend avid travelers get this card:

1) Airline Credit of $200

The Amex Platinum Card offers an annual $200 in airline credit, that can be used towards airline fees each year. Although you must choose your airline of choice, and this can’t be purchased directly for flights, you may purchase a gift card with your airline of choice, purchase a lounge pass, pay for baggage fees, and in-flight purchases. $200 free a year, for things I already buy when traveling? Done.

2) Points, Point, Points! 5X the Points

Amex offers a 5x conversion program, and card holders can use points to book travel through Expedia or American Express Travel (you can use all or some of your points) purchase gift cards, transfer points, shop and even cover your credit card expenses. The point value system is one of the best in the industry, and you will see that you will be racking up the points, and enjoying the travel benefits in a shorter amount of time!

3) Access to airport lounges

Ah… Centurion Lounge. Food and cocktails? Yes please. Amex has their own lounges called Centurion. Platinum members have access to all Centurion lounges, as well as Delta Sky Clubs if traveling on Delta. Through the Priority Pass program, you can also set up an account and have access to an array of lounges (over 1,0000) that are offered across the globe. The Amex Platinum card also allows additional authorized card users for $175 annually. Each authorized user is provided access to lounges and sky clubs the same way the card holder is and can bring guests according to the lounge rules.

4) Uber Credits

Amex cardholders receive up to $200 in ride credits per year, as well as Uber VIP status. This also ensures that you have access to better cars and drivers. For this, the card needs to be linked with an Uber account, after which you receive $15 every month. The perks apply to only US cardholders.

5) TSA PreCheck Credit

This is an added benefit for frequent travelers if the $85 TSA PreCheck fee is paid for Global Entry application. The fee is refunded as statement credit and happens every four years when you need to renew your application.

6) Hotel Bonuses

If you book your tickets through Amex travel, you could earn 5 points for each dollar for Starwood purchase, 2 for Marriott purchases, and 1 for all other purchases. Platinum cardholders have access to the Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts program for reduced rates, and allowed to upgrade rooms, daily breakfast, free use of Wi-Fi, early room arrival by 12pm, late checkout of 4 pm, and a $100 amenity for the use of spa services, or dining credit.

7) Elite Status with Starwood, Hilton and Marriott

Live the #SPGLife with Amex Platinum cardholders are entitled to Starwood Preferred Guest Gold status. Marriot and Hilton Honors Gold status. So, what that means is no more counting stays at these properties to rack up your preferred status. You’re automatically Gold, which allows you free room upgrades, and additional amenities at check in. The SPG program is my favorite brand who often does a great job offering these perks, such as early and late check-out, welcome amenity of your choice (usually a welcome drink or additional points) and a free room upgrade based on availability. I’ve even had valet and breakfast comped! That usually does not happen all the time, but when it does, it’s a nice bonus!

8) Cruise Privilege

Are you planning to go on your next cruise? Cardholders receive:
• $100 for inside cabins
• $200 for balcony cabins
• $300 for suites

9) Car Rentals

Cardholders have access to the premium car rental programs, which offers elite status, and excellent pricing options. The card can also provide coverage for theft or other damage with qualifying vehicles.
